Once measured and careful, I sped up waiting for you,
I crossed desolate mountains with hope of a view.
Like passing on debris left by country roadsides,
Split into headaches and long nights and tears cried,
I found my rapid desertion a startling welcome relief,
To think, I’ll be lost to the crumbling asphalt next week.
As tires tear past on this thin stretch of highway,
my eyes reflect headlights and ash piles in burnt skies.
