Midnight walks on the beach Barefoot on the sand Smiling wide with sparkling eyes Laughing over golden apples and bets lost Bells chiming over waves crashing A fickle wisdom that ebbs and flows Fostering fortune of favorites and foundlings
Tea parties:
Cristaline goblets refracting rainbows
Full of golden peaches and cream
On pastel pink tablecloths
Adorned with tulips and poppies
To match strawberry meringue,
Rose tea with lavender honey,
Warm scones with clotted cream
Treasured times at tea parties
Bejeweled shields and inlay swords, once bright and resplendent
Lay rusted amongst pearls and shells in the sea foam
I thought, for a moment there, I didn’t need them anymore
That sunsets in violet hues were all that was ahead of me
But I suppose there is never an end to self made tragedy
Gentle doves always high fly over twilight cities and pretend
To be the most fearsome creatures of the night’s mysteries.
The anger that cuts through to a seldom spoken truth,
Silk robes, seashells, mirrors on still water running deep
Those things I killed myself for were, in fact, a phantom
A loss, a lie, a lingering notion of self righteous superiority
That I had when breath came easily and life in tandem
And my journals were filled with blushing bubbles and butterflies,
Now I write of descents into madness in ancient atrocities.
A wandering snail by the edge of the sea
Wrapped itself in impenetrable beauty
Sea shells made thorny armor to protect
The humble voyager from the vicious attacks
Of quick witted seagulls and sniping sand crabs
Write it down, get it out
To prove the feeling
I instinctively knew
Without doubt.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings. I just noticed that I hit 50 post two days ago. I can’t believe I have already written that many poems. I have loved writing here over the last few months and am so excited to continue. Anyway, I had a bunch of half finished poems about Aphrodite, so I put them all together here!
