Is the sky above your head still blue?
In the beyond, where they carried you.
Do you still dance in liquid flames,
Sing round treat laden tables?
Recalling with effortless fondness
Days we shared, though few.
Do you hear the deep drumming?
Even now, it claws dark, damp air
As echos climb empty caverns.
Do you feel, cross time and space,
The hope I still hold for you?
When we parted for better fields
Eyes shining, tearful and smiling,
Did you know we would meet again?
At the close of the age our heroics began.
I look for you each new dawn,
In the far off clouds and on trails.
They lead me round sharp bends
Permeate shallow talks with friends.
Pride in my stomach,
Longing in my chest,
These long years apart
I’ve never once thought,
That my love had diminished,
Our friendship only grew
With the distance of our hearts.
