Decades ago, greed bloodied a cove and
Banished them to wandered the ocean
Returning each year to their other haunts,
Yet never returning to this one scared spot.
More than a generation ago, Lolita left home
Remembering still what dwells in her bones
Her other’s, her mother, had fought with the land
Rendered defeated, left wounded, with no plan
In her isolation and desperation, Lolita lingered
Her call rang out loud, of her family, so treasured
For fifty three years of her life growing fainter,
Last ditch efforts and budget couldn’t save her
Then today, on the news in a hightech camera
Sea watchers saw the voyagers, the pod in Canada
Long lost sense of place, drove forward descendants
Lead by the mother of lonely Lolita, the only survivor
From a time long forgotten by the heartstrong youth
Humanities’ intentions now have time to prove
To trust once again in the will to freely roam
The whales returned to their ancient home.
