Hemlocked Heart

It has been a while since I’ve written
Words to wind and wreck my thoughts
Still, feelings form without inspection
Betraying underlying dreadful wants

Don’t bless the coming of stale water
Never know the flames that burrow deep
Don’t chain your hope to future’s fodder
Never wake a bear from winter’s sleep

When words don’t come to form inside
Sharp colors in a blank, unthinking mind
Let wander once more down ashen path
Thoughts of fire’s light in midnight’s masks
