Between brief rays of weak sunlight
Water commands the granite sky
Slowing the world of air to liquid’s time
Water weighted air breaths slow, rhythmic
Hummingbirds hide in oleander bushes
Deer shelter under canopies of live oaks
Quickness lives only in the saturated places
River’s rush, droplet’s plummet, pond’s swell
For this day, land and sky live in soaked unison
Briefly, no longer at odds their lost kin, the sea
