Herm
Pitter patter down the track
Lyrics twist fresh lies to facts
Find truth, true sentiment buried
Pluck peace to sooth the worried
Nobel trickster with a cause
Fight for all who wander lost
You carve a mask of iron will
To guide, to make, to barter still
Live among our foolish hacks
And see all that the world lacks
Mother Grove
On the shores of the unknown world,
Where Nyx and Hemera meet
To charm one another into sleep,
Soft songs and warm breezes
Soothingly drift by lapping waves,
Caressing rocky beaches, slow and sweet
From all quarters, vast and varied,
Gather an ancient regal grove
Of the benevolent mother trees,
Behemoth antlers abundantly adorned
With well wishes and practiced prayers
Weary travelers beseech in wails and whispers
Desperate beyond defence,
All allegiance abandoned
Willing to betray the sacred order
For the wonder that wanders
Round each leaf and in each ray
Of golden life that breathes
Between the branches
Of each mother, wise and great
One by one, the wretched appear
To barter and beg the great trees
A seconds glimpse, a backwards tick,
A brighter blight, a riddle solved
Gracious and mighty the grove
Shines hope for weak mortals
From wizened centuries they teach
Those who tend to their wayward roots
Only to discover, their corruption
Spread across the boundless sea,
Voyagers still arrive deceived,
False premonitions fed by Narcissus
Promised taking without need of giving
Branches stripped and sap drained
Over pruned and plucked they stand
The wisest has found eternal kindness
For the few who dare to climb atop
Her weather limbs, stout and noble,
To simply watch moonrise gleam in the dark
At the ocean
Sat still on weathered driftwood at the edge of the world
I watch, a bundled sentinel, over the endless gray horizon
Clouds form a storm at sea, fields of thunder and lighting
Approach the calm coastline, heralded by whipping winds
Who heard the great majestic frenzy to the quiet shore
Closer, closer, calamity comes, distressing patient waves
Gulls burrow in the seagrass making a grim rustling symphony
Or abandon their realm and flee inland craving sheltered safety
And in the chaos Ocean grins, marking herself a noble mystery
Quickly, the waters bring in darkness to drown out the pale sun
As the Ocean meets the winter rain, she reflects silver eternity
Greeting each droplet with great aplomb, a careful collector
A homecoming for the ages, a longing reunion of many to the one
She bolts and bends to meet freshwater with a regal embrace
Allowing for a moment the triumph of the skies, Ocean churns
Inspired by the commanding power of water in the clouds in turn
Revealing in due time, Poseidon’s wild dancing on the waves,
Gleeful and outrageous in the storm made to last for ten days
Dripping in glittering pearls sent from Zeus’s domain, he romps
Each pelting a courageous reminder of ancient primordial ways
And I, now stood atop driftwood, as the shore becomes the sea
Take my guidance from the gulls and turn on my heels to flee.
Hephaestus Today
You’ve dedicate your life to creating,
Forming creations and dedicating
Each night’s work to cultivating,
Each day’s strife to love’s permeating
To make a token of your power
You mold and hammer it every hour
You pour in justice, wrath and sorrow
Pray the wielder believes in tomorrow
Lightning bolts and armor take world stage
At once when you send your small joys away
Battles without reason start without delays
Raining down magma, your hope betrayed
While thought of usurping fill you with rage
It never crossed your mind, as with courage,
You stood in the fire in the heart of the forge
That one day your treasures would emerge
Another creation you formed out of clay
Will stand up resilient in the dim light of day
Looking at the blank white page…
Looking at the blank white page
I get lost in thoughts and turn away
Wishing for emotions, brood in gray,
Making iris art from today’s rage.
I regret it for a moment, all the same,
When I started violet violent games,
I picked up the pen to wreck the line
I’ll meet Euterpe under lilac skies, next time.
Forget periwinkle plans and throw a fit
Fighting for my life to find a rhyme
I know now that I folly plays with frail minds
Only start so I can scrap it.
No Show
Once I thought she might answer,
I had hoped she would notice,
Yet, dreams leave me none wiser,
Long lost intrigue, the grotesque.
Not a knock on the front door
Not a scent in the west winds
Not a wrapping on hard floors
Not a whisper across grim grins.
Flashing through the corridors,
Grief and loss for the living
Rogue hunted heartbreakers
Left in bleak solitude, longing.
Athena
Salutations deep thinker
Unsightly dream breather
Whos laws bring destruction
And heart cries over lost leaders
Guide the brave makers
Hunt down boundary breakers
On boats made by corruption
Bring your justice, pallas slayer
The face of tomorrow
Tick the clock
Wind the waters
Wrap regret
And face tomorrow
The ageless statues
Crumble beneath
Swarms of locust
and hunger, deep.
From the edge
Of the forest
Watched your rise
Recounting lost time
Tick the clock
I lost my thought
To gain, barter,
Your knowledge
I know. I know. I know.
You wait for no one
Just forge ahead
With electric eccentrics
In cities and boroughs
I once wished you dead,
Or morphed or rewritten
Into another goddess,
An introverted sluggard
Who kept bright ideas
In blood splattered jars.
The idea to wither alive
A loss known to none
Of a vast land formation
Of farming, of calming
Of building and engineering
Eternity is in your hand.
Yet you tick the clock
Wind the waters
Wrap regret
And face tomorrow
Aegis
Throw aegis from balconies
Throw aegis carelessly
Throw aegis into the sea
Throw aegis, the mystery
Throw aegis to slay me
Athena
I was once clay, unformed and complete
Amassed and refined I became a body
Breathless and mindless, I simply stood.
Law bringer, craft creator, boundary keeper.
I’ve waited.
For your approach when my life was born
Clay became wholly human, you adorned
And endlessly taught. Ways of my kind.
Resolute daughter, Gorgon wearer, just leader.
I’ve waited.
Never before sent down the mountain.
From your prudent gifts society formed,
The first such lesson we eternally learned.
Wisdom maker, action taker, war slayer.
I’ve waited.
